Phola Coal - Coal Treatment Plant
BHP Billiton and Anglo Coal
Year of implementation: 2009
Financial volume: EUR 12.5 thousand
PURPOSE
The Phola Coal Plant is a 50/50 joint venture between Anglo American Coal (AAC) and BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa (BECSA). The coal processing technology is a standard heavy liquid treatment (DMS). As the plant is located in an environmentally sensitive area, the construction of sedimentation tanks has been banned. This means that the technology has a closed sludge circuit and all fine particles in coal processing must be dewatered in thickening screw presses.
